That about sums up Gothic. Gothic music is Dark, but usually dancing on the fine line of being tasteless or making people laugh. The music is often overly mystical, more concerned with the image and the apparent suffering (notice: apparent) than any real pain or discomfort.
Gothic music is very concerned with the style and the proper imagery, skulls, blood, sensuality, vampires and such are the day-to-day imagery of Gothic. One either likes it, or doesn't. Nevertheless what one thinks of the style of the scene, one can still appreciate some of the best bands, like Moonspell, Tiamat or Type-O-Negative.
